Student Council Meeting - February

The school council met this month to discuss the latest updates in school and to address any issues that are concerning the student body.

All student council members were in attendance and the meeting was led by Head Girl, Anita and Head Boy, Fred. Mrs Brookes was the teacher overseeing the discussions.

Items Discussued:

  • Parking outside school - students have reported that some parents have been parking on double yellow lines - causing issues for the majority of students who are walking to/from school or getting the bus. Parents will be informed again of the regulations in the next school newsletter and teachers will be monitoring the situation over the next few weeks.

  • Recycling - the students are pushing a large eco-drive on recycling following the recent media storm surrounding climate change and young people. There will be coloured recycling bins around key areas on the school premises and posters encouraging everyone to adhere to the new policies.

  • Year 11 Prom - the decision has been taken for the Year 11 Prom to be held at the Marriott Hotel and for there to be a formal dress code, three course meal and disco. Funds will be raised through car washing in the summer, sponsored walks and a sponsored silence by the Year 11 students in the run up to Easter.

  • Easter Show - it has been agreed that the Easter Show will go ahead as planned - different musical, drama and dance groups will participate and rehearsals have been proceeding in earnest.

  • Lunch Menus - Meat-Free Mondays and World Wednesdays have both proved extremely popular addiitions to the menu with the majority of students saying that they are enjoying the new food on offer, and trying new things. We will continue these themes throughout the next term.

The next meeting will be held at the end of April.
